Until May 2020, Coal Production Realization still on Target

Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) has recorded realization of coal production until May 2020 reached 228 million tonnes, while realization of domestic coal use (Domestic Market Obligation/DMO) 53.55 million tonnes.

The realization of coal production, according to Head of Bureau of Communication, Public Information Services, and Cooperation (KLIK) of Ministry of EMR Agung Pribadi, still meets the target, and is projected to meet the 2020 national production target at 550 million tonnes.

"Realization of coal production until 31 May still met national production target of 2020, by 42% of the set plan. Production until December 2020 is also projected to reach the 550 million tonne target," Agung explained.

Meanwhile, export realization until May 2020 reached 175.15 million tonnes, equaling to USD 7.77 billion. The prognosis for export volume in 2020 is set at 435 million tonnes.

Agung also said that coal demand and trade on the international market in 2020 were estimated to drop due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Indonesia is currently exploring export possibilities to a number of developing countries.

"We explore possible export markets in other developing countries such as Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Additionally, we'll improve the supply chain efficiency to the importing countries and make direct contract or direct shipping to importing countries," Agung concluded. (IY)
