Minister of EMR: Immediately Commercialize Laboratory-Scale Research Results

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif, requested that laboratory-scale research results produced by Center for Oil and Gas Technologies Research and Development (PPPTMGB) "LEMIGAS" be immediately commercialized.

Arifin conveyed the request when he visited several service and laboratory facilities of PPPTMGB "LEMIGAS" in Cipulir, Jakarta (22/1).

The laboratory-scale researches that the minister requested to be prepared for a higher scale include, among others, Organic Foaming Agent, monovalent organic salt-based Completion Fluid, and Enhanced Oil Recovery surfactant to increase oil production.

"Organic-based additives are undoubtedly safer to the environment and will therefore attract industry's attention", said Arifin.

Head of PPPTMGB "LEMIGAS", Setyorini Tri Hutami, explained that most oil and gas companies in Indonesia have used her agency to test a variety of O&G samples and supporting equipment.

To strengthen research and competence, Arifin hopes PPPTMGB "LEMIGAS" will renew its equipment so as to reduce cost and testing time.

Arifin also requested that more employees have doctoral background to improve research competence.

In response to the minister's request, Head of EMR R&D Agency, Dadan Kusdiana, explained that PPPTMGB "LEMIGAS" has allocated 20% of this year budget on employee education, by financing a number of employees to pursue higher education in Japan. (IY)
