Minister of EMR: Focus on Transmission Development
The Indonesian government through the Ministry
of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) will immediately review plans to develop
power plants in Indonesia. The review forms the material for the 2020 Electricity
Procurement Master Plan (RUPTL) revision.
Minister of EMR Arifin Tasrif states that the changes
in the direction of electricity development is considered necessary at the
moment, especially in terms of the need to add electricity transmission. "Currently
we do not have enough transmission, because it grows slowly," said Arifin in
Jakarta, Friday (27/12).
The development of transmission and substation is the government's focus in electricity distribution. "So, if we don't speed up (transmission development), we can never utilize the electricity generated by finished (power plant) projects," Arifin explained.
In the future, the government will re-arrange
power plant development by both Independent Power Producer (IPP) and PLN to fit
it with consumers and public demand. The re-arrangement will also be a material
for the 2020 RUPTL revision. "We have to inspect all factors. For example,
if there is no (consumer) demand, but we keep on developing, somebody must pay
for the generated power," Arifin affirmed.
Arifin also confirms that unfinished power
plant must always be monitored to ensure completion. "The 35 Megawatt project
still has to be completed and everything (consumer) is available," Arifin
ended.(IY)
