Gas Supply to Singapore to be Switched to Domestic in 2023

Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) affirms that it will increase domestic gas use by stopping the gas supply to Singapore from Suban Field, Corridor Block, which is managed by ConocoPhillips.

"Gas is plentiful in Sumatra; supply to Singapore ends in 2023 and will be switched to domestic market," said Minister of EMR Arifin Tasrif at Nusantara I Building of House of Representatives in Jakarta, Wednesday (27/11).

In the future, the gas previously supplied to Singapore will be directed to Duri Dumai pipelines, and eventually transmitted in whole for domestic demand, particularly for Sumatra Island. In addition, Sumatra will be supplied from a number of addition wells currently in the process of gas purchase. "We have made an approach to allocate (buy) a number of (additional) wells to connect the pipelines from Dumai," Arifin explained.

Besides Sumatra, according to Arifin, gas will also be supplied to Java through several pipelines, namely Gresik-Semarang-Cirebon- Jakarta, originated from Saka Kemang and Jambi Merang Blocks.

"Sumatra, Java, we just have to connect to Cirebon-Gresik, the source is ConocoPhillips Saka Kemang, so these areas will be connected," he said.

For Kalimantan, gas will be distributed through the trans-Kalimantan pipelines. According to the plan, gas supply comes both from operating O&G blocks and from East Natuna Block.

"For the trans-Kalimantan pipelines, we see the huge potential of Natuna Block D Alfa; we can channel the gas to Pontianak, then down to other cities," Arifin said. (IY)
