Electricity in North Luwu Has Gradually Recovered

Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) and PT. PLN (Persero) confirm that the electricity connection in a number of regions in North Luwu which were struck by flash floods and landslides have gradually recovered. PLN reported that until Friday (17/7) morning, as many as 328 substations or 92 percent of total 355 substations have been back in operation.

"Efforts to recover the electricity connection have continued to be made, gradually to 100%, despite difficult road access and large pools of muddy water. Our colleagues at PLN have been making their best efforts so that the people of North Luwu will immediately get electricity connection," said Agung Pribadi, Head of Bureau of Communication, Public Information Services, and Cooperation of Ministry of EMR in Jakarta (17/7).

Agung expressed his appreciation to PLN that has mobilized about 50 officers jointly from PLN UP3 Palopo, ULP Tomoni, and ULP Masamba to inspect, clean, dry, and check the substations.

Several regions have had their electricity connected by 100%, namely Malangke, Kanyapu, Pongo, Lara, Lawewe, and Mappadecceng. Meanwhile, Masamba, Radda, Baebunta, Malimbu, and Baloli have been connected by 90%, while Kapidi, Poddo, Laba, Sabbang, and Salulemo 82%.

Flash floods struck on Monday (13/7) and affected six sub-regencies, namely Masamba, Sabbang, Baebunta, South Baebunta, Malangke, and West Malangke. 3,627 Family Head (KK) or 14,483 people were evacuated to three sub-regencies. (IY)
