PLN to Adjust Tariffs for More Customers

In the period of October-December 2020, seven low-voltage customer groups of the State Utility Company PLN will enjoy tariff reduction. This is in line with the direction of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) Arifin Tasrif to PLN's President Director in letter No. 291/23/MEM.L/2020 on tariff reduction for low-voltage customers that will become effective from 1 October 2020.

The electricity tariff for low-voltage customers that was previously Rp 1,467/kWh is now down to Rp 1,444.70/kWh, or Rp 22.5/kWh lower, for October-December 2020.

This decision was made after the government considered people's economic conditions which have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. It also shows the state's presence for electricity customers by giving the necessary support and solutions.

"This reduction in electricity tariff is meant to ease the burden on our fellow citizens who are most impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and at the same time to push the wheels of the national economy," said Head of Bureau of Communication, Public Information Services, and Cooperation of Ministry of EMR, Agung Pribadi, in Jakarta on Friday (2/10).

Executive Vice President of Communication and CSR of PLN Agung Murdifi in the company's written statement said that through this reduction, the government and PLN wanted to lift the economic burden of low-voltage customers.

"This reduction is expected to encourage people to using more electricity in supporting their economic activities and in their daily lives," he said.

He added that the tariff reduction for low-voltage customers was not subject to any conditions. "Please enjoy the tariff reduction. And please use PLN's electricity comfortably and, of course, safely," Murdifi said.

PLN's customers who can enjoy tariff reduction includes the following groups:

  1. R-1 TR 1300VA
  2. R-1 TR 2200 VA
  3. R-2 TR 3500 VA-5500 VA
  4. R-3 TR 6600 VA
  5. B-2 TR 6600 VA-200 kVA
  6. P-1 TR 6600 VA-200 kVA
  7. P-3 /TR.

Meanwhile, household customers subscribing to a 450 VA plan get a 100% discount (free) and those subscribing to a subsidized 900 VA get a 50% discount since April 2020. Additionally, tariff relief is also given to small business customers subscribing to a 450 VA plan and small industry 450 VA in the form of a 100% discount. (IY)
