No Change in Electricity Tariffs for January-March 2021

The Indonesian government through its Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) has decided that there will be no electricity tariff change for January-March 2021 for 13 non-subsidized customer groups.

The electricity tariffs for 25 subsidized customer groups will not change, either.

"Although macro-economic parameters in the last three months have changed, the government has decided that that there will be no change in electricity tariffs, for both subsidized and non-subsidized customer groups," said Head of Bureau of Communication, Public Information Services, and Cooperation of Ministry of EMR, Agung Pribadi, in Jakarta on Thursday (4/12).

Based on EMR Ministerial Regulation Number 28 of 2016 on Electricity Tariffs Provided by PT PLN (Persero) as last amended by EMR Ministerial Regulation Number 3 of 2020, electricity tariffs will be adjusted if there are changes in macro-economic indicators (Rupiah exchange rate against US Dollar, Indonesian Crude Price/ICP, inflation rate, and Coal Benchmark Price/HPB). The change will be calculated on a quarterly basis (for Q1, based on realization in August-October of previous year).

From August to October 2020, parameters were dynamic--the rupiah exchange rate reached Rp 14,773.87 per US Dollar, the ICP was US$39.04/barrel, the inflation rate was -0.01%, and the HPB was Rp 651.72 per kg.

The electricity tariff for non-subsidized, Low Voltage (TR) groups such as households with 1,300 volt-amperes (VA), 2,200 VA, 3,500 VA to 5,500 VA, 6,600 VA and above; businesses with 6,600 to 200 kVA; government offices with 6,600 VA to 200 kVA; and street lighting remains the same at Rp 1,444.70 per kilowatt hour (kWh). The tariff for households with 900 VA-RTM is set at Rp 1,352/kWh.

Medium Voltage (TM) customers such as businesses, industries, government office with >200 kVA, and special services are also imposed the same tariff at Rp 1,114.74 per kWh.

Meanwhile, the tariff for High Voltage (TT) customers such as industries with >= 30,000 kVA and above is constant at Rp 996.74/kWh.

"The government has decided not to increase electricity tariffs in order to provide certainty to various community group, maintain people's purchasing power, and recover national economy," Agung said. (IY)
