Minister Arifin: 5K Principles for Electricity Supply

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) Arifin Tasrif was present as the keynote speaker and virtually opened a digital seminar on the 75th Anniversary of National Electricity Day. On that occasion, Arifin explained that electricity supply in Indonesia is based on the 5K principles, which stands for kecukupan, keandalan, keberlanjutan, keterjangkauan, dan keadilan (adequacy, reliability, sustainability, affordability, and equitability).

"Adequacy means that the government tries to implement national electricity demand planning, including ensuring that the capacity development program to 35,000 MW can continue. Next, reliability is related to the quality and utilization of technology, including the use of sensors in power plants that will continue to be promoted to improve efficiency and the installation of smart grids," he said on Wednesday (4/11).

The next principle is sustainability. Arifin explained that this principle means promoting the use of New and Renewable Energy, for example by installing Rooftop PLTS (Solar PV System).

"The fourth is affordability, where the government strives for competitive electricity prices so that electricity tariffs are affordable to all levels of society. And the fifth principle, equitability, means equal access to electricity is realized in efforts to increase electrification ratio," Arifin explained.

At the end of his remarks, Arifin hoped that all stakeholders in the electricity subsector could contribute to the energy sector. Arifin also hoped that the digital seminar could come up with policy recommendations beneficial to Indonesia's progress.

"We hope that you will continue to contribute to the energy sector, especially through the electricity subsector, by realizing the 5K principles. I also hope this digital seminar can come up with policy recommendations that are beneficial to the progress of our nation and state, particularly in the management of the energy sector," he concluded.
