Energy Ministry Holds Precious Stones Talk webinar

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) and Indonesian National Craft Council (Dekranas) held a Precious Stone Market Talk webinar. The webinar is part of a series of events at the New Entrepreneurial Work Show that have been held since Wednesday (27/1). Speakers at the webinar include designers of gems, precious stones, and non-precious stones.

Advisor to Indonesian Civil Servant Spouse Group (DWP) of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) who is also Head of Dekranas' New Entrepreneurial Team, Ratna Arifin Tasrif, expressed her appreciation for the webinar. Ratna said that the Precious Stone Market Talk can add insignt and creativity for those wishing to carry on precious stone business.

"The webinar is interesting, very informative, and adds insight. This Precious Stone Market Talk helps find new ideas, innovation, and creativity about precious stones," said Ratna on Friday (29/1).

The talk show offers precious stones business players opportunity to promote their products, especially to Dekranas members who want to take a loot at the work of the designers.

"Hopefully our colleagues (Dekranas members) desire to take a loot at the designers' work can be met," she said.

Ratna expressed her desire that Indonesian precious stones would no longer be processed abroad to be later sold back to Indonesian buyers. Ratna also hoped to see more people go into precious stone business.

"During these last few days, we've gained an insight into the abundance of Indonesian precious stones. I think a lot of local goods are brought out (of the country) and later bought back. Through this webinar, I hope the problem will be solved and that more and more people will be interested to go into precious stones business. This way, craftmen and anyone related to precious stones business will be prosperous," said Ratna.

The first speaker at the webinar was Sariat, the owner of Ashof Jade Jewellery in Jakarta. Sariat uses jade, one of the most expensive stones in the world and in Indonesia is only found in Aceh, to make handmade, custom jewelries.

"I sell handmade, custom jewelries. So, if you buy one from me, you'll have your own unique jewelry. The production process takes two to three months, depending on design complexity. We employ jade craftmen from Aceh," Sariat explained.

Another speaker is Runi Palar, the owner of Runa Bali Jewelry. Runi focuses her business on jewelries, silverware, and fashion accessories. Runi combines precious metals and stones into beautiful ornaments. Runi's products are exported, with Japan as the largest market.

There was also Djunaedi, a precious stone entrepreneur who owns a store at the Jakarta Gems Center. Djunaedi's products are precious stones creatively-modeled into rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, accessories, and decorations with various colors and motifs. Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, Djunaedi and his staff are able to make innovative and useful accessories such as mask hooks.

"In this difficult condition, we have to innovate to make ends meet. How we can turn our natural resources into something of value. Stones play a role in our society's economic development, enough to make local craftmen and precious stones entrepreneurs live well," said Djunaedi.

Other designers who joined the webinar were Sujatmiko from Gemafia, Reny Feby from Reny Feby Jewelry, and Farhad Zamrud from Grup Permata. (IY)
