Collaborating with UNDP, Ministry of EMR Organizes Renewables Training

Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) through its PPSDM KEBTKE (Center for Human Resources Development in Electricity; New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation) of BPSDM ESDM (Human Resources Development Agency for Energy and Mineral Resources) collaborates with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in organizing 'Training on Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Project: Introduction, Process, and Activity' for three days, from November 10 to November 12, 2020, through distance learning.

Head of PPSDM KEBTKE, Laode Sulaeman, said that the collaboration aims to increase human resources capacity in Indonesia. "This is an important step to make Indonesia an advanced and competitive country," said Laode in Jakarta on Tuesday (10/11).

The synergy with one of the agencies of the United Nations (UN), continued Laode, shows the quality of a learning and development unit under BPSDM ESDM in responding to global challenges. "We can show our class on the global level because we have adequate facilities and infrastructure as well as competent instructors," he said.

According to Laode, electricity has now become a basic need in people's life. Based on the RUPTL (Electricity Supply Business Plan) of PT PLN of 2019-2028, the growth in electricity demand is projected to average 6.42%. The government has planned to build a capacity of 56,395 MW and transmission networks of 57,293 kms.

In new and renewable energy subsector, the Government of Indonesia through Government Regulation Number 79 of 2014 on National Energy Policy targets the minimum use of renewables by 23% in 2025 and 31% in 2050. "We are shifting to the use of renewables as the backbone of Indonesia's energy future. Participation and support from all stakeholders, including renewables developers and local governments, are vital," said Laode.

Laode hopes that the training will provide participants with the knowledge about the programs and activities in renewable energy and energy conservation in Indonesia, for example about geothermal energy, various new and renewable energy, bioenergy, energy conservation, Electricity Supply Business License, and Procedures for Applying for Business Licenses through the OSS Application.

Besides training and certification services, PPSDM KEBTKE also provides services in the forms of technical guidance, energy audit service, and other supporting services related to electricity and renewable energy. PPSDM KEBTKE strives to become a credible and trusted institution in human resources development in Indonesia. "We are ready to be part of and a trusted partner in the development of human resources in the fields of electricity and new, renewable energy and energy conservation," Laode concluded. (IY)
