Cilacap Blue Sky Refinery Officially Launched

On the 63th anniversary of Pertamina, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) Arifin Tasrif, President Director of national energy company PT Pertamina (Persero) Nicke Widyawati, and CEO of Kilang Pertamina Internasional Ignatius Tallulembang officially launched the Cilacap Blue Sky Refinery (KLBC) in a virtual ceremony on Thursday evening (10/12).

Minister Arifin expressed his appreciation to Pertamina for the succesful construction and integration of KLBC operation with that of Cilacap Refinery since October 2019. The Cilacap Refinery is one of Pertamina's large refineries which plays the role of maintaining the national energy self-reliance and self-sufficiency.

"I'd like to appreciate the efforts made by Pertamina in carrying out the mandate. The operation of KLBC has successfully increased the production of Pertamax gasoline, which has better quality and is more environmentally friendly," said Arifin.

The KLBC operation, continued Arifin, proves Pertamina's efforts to support the government in realizing energy self-reliance and security and reducing gasoline imports; thus, reducing deficit in Indonesia's trade balance.

President Director of Pertamina, Nicke Widyawati, explained that since the operation of the KLBC, the production capacity of Pertamax RON 92 at the Cilacap Refinery has significantly increased; thus, imports have been reduced while trade balance deficit narrowed. The product quality is very good because it meets EURO 4 standards. During construction, the project had provided direct and indirect job opportunities for about 3,000 workers, 70% of whom are locals. Additionally, based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the project has contributed a 0.12% increase in the GDP.

"Pertamina is committed to become the national economic locomotive through the implementation of local contents (TKDN) policy in its on-going projects. Special for KLBC, the local contents reached 41.5%, exceeding a target of 30%. This project has also created multiplier effects that serve the community. Thus, the benefits are enjoyed not only by Pertamina but also by the state. For this reason, Pertamina expects that we can have the support from all parties," Nicke concluded. (IY)
