Atlas of Oil and Gas Safety Launched

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) Arifin Tasrif launched Atlas of Oil and Gas Safety Volume 3 of 2020 to coincide with Oil and Gas Safety Awards Ceremony which was held virtually on Tuesday (3/11). This atlas is expected to reflect the oil and gas safety management in Indonesia.

"Congratulations on the launch of the Atlas of Oil and Gas Safety Volume 3 of 2020. I hope this atlas can direct our attention to the issue of safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly oil and gas safety so as to improve investment climate in the oil and gas subsector," said Minister Arifin.

Arifin hoped that oil and gas safety issues would be evaluated regularly and updated continuously according to needs so as to achieve zero accidents or zero fatality accidents.

The safety atlas contains various information on oil and gas safety and lessons learned about oil and gas accidents in Indonesia. "Our audit and observation resulted in benchmarking; there are best practices by the oil and gas industry that can be used as general reference," said Waluyo, Head of Independent Team for Oil and Gas Safety Control.

Meanwhile, Director of Oil and Gas Technique and Environment Adhi Wibowo said the atlas, which was prepared by Directorate General of Oil and Gas and TIPKM (Independent Team for Oil and Gas Safety Control), had showed that accidents lurked at any time. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and improve oil and gas safety responsibilities.

"From our point of view as a government agency, we will continue to carry out effective fostering and supervision programs, and undoubtedly, support oil and gas companies' efforts towards zero accidents and zero unplanned shutdowns because basically, we are in the same boat," said Adhi.

The Atlas of Oil and Gas Safety Volume 3 continues Volume 1 which was published in 2016 and Volume 2 in 2017. (IY)
