75th Anniversary of National Electricity Day, Winners of Electricity Safety Awards Announced

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of National Electricity Day, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) announced winners of Electricity Safety Awards. Seven power plants that topped each of the award categories are PLTU (Steam Power Plant) Paiton Units 1 and 2, PLTGU (Combined Steam and Gas Power Plant) Gresik, PLTU Belitung, PLTGU Keramasan, PLTU Teluk Balikpapan, PLTU Tidore, and PLTG Tello.

Minister of EMR, Arifin Tasrif, said in his remarks that he welcomed the efforts to improve electricity safety through the competition and expected that the event could raise awareness among electricity business actors.

"This year's event is expected to raise awareness among electricity supply business actors, especially those engaged in generation, of the importance of safety aspects such as operation-worthy certification, technical personnel competence, and electricity environment," said Arifin on Tuesday (3/11).

Arifin also expected that the efforts made by the award winners would inspire other electricity companies.

"Congratulations to the winners of the Electricity Safety Awards of 2020. Hopefully, you will inspire other electricity companies. Please don't get too satisfied, but instead make your success the motivation to be even better in the future," said Arifin.

On the same occasion, Director General of Electricity, Rida Mulyana, explained that the Electricity Safety Awards had been aimed to show appreciation and to raise awareness of electricity safety.

"The Electricity Safety Awards have been aimed to show appreciation and to raise awareness among electricity supply businesses, particularly those of power plants, of meeting the electricity safety requirements in order to create safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly electricity installation, and to foster a safety culture in the electricity subsector," said Rida.

Rida explained that a total of 46 power plants from 11 categories of PLTU and gas-fired power plants (PLTG) or combined steam and gas power plants (PLTGU) participated in the event, which was held for the third time. The seven power plants that won the awards earned a passing grade from the administrative and verification assessments carried out.

The Electricity Safety Awards had been held to celebrate the 75th anniversary National Electricity Day. The assessments were carried out by a team of experts from Ministry of EMR, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, academics, practitioners, and electricity stakeholders.

The administrative and verification assessments had been carried out both in person and online. Because of the current Covid-19 pandemic, the assessments were carried out by obeying applicable health protocols. (IY)
