Young Generation Plays a Key Role in Renewable Energy Campaign, Says Official

In an effort to achieve the NZE (Net Zero Emission), the Ministry of EMR has adopted a number of strategies, for example through the development of new, renewable energy power plants, including the implementation of presidential regulation on renewable electricity prices and the development of biomass co-firing at coal-fired power plants. Additionally, the contracts for coal-fired power plants will not be renewed, Coordinator for Communication and Public Information Services of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR), Ariana Soemanto, has said during a Coaching Clinic event titled "How Far New and Renewable Energy Policies in Indonesia have Advanced" held by Society of Renewable Energy (SRE) of University of Jenderal Soedirman in Purwokerto on Friday (24/9). We also accelerate the implementation of electric vehicles and expand the use of electric stoves, Ariana continued.

To speed up the 23% new, renewable energy mix in 2025, Ariana said the government needed the young generation's role to run a campaign for renewable energy.

"The government also needs the role of the young generation to accelerate the 23 percent new, renewable energy mix in 2025. The young generation also plays a key role in the campaign for new, renewable energy such as rooftop solar. The Ministry of EMR is ready to support your ideas and innovations in new, renewable energy," said Ariana.

Ariana admitted that Indonesia's oil supply and demand were unbalanced. He said that Indonesia's oil consumption was higher than its production. On the contrary, the country's gas production is much higher than its consumption, making Indonesia one of the world's gas exporting countries.

"In the oil and gas subsector, the supply and demand for oil in Indonesia are still unbalanced. The people consume a much larger amount of oil compared to the production, so Indonesia has to import oil from other countries. On the contrary, the gas supply and demand is very profitable because the production is higher than the people's consumption. This has made Indonesia one of the world's gas exporting countries," Ariana concluded. (IY)
