We'll Accelerate Strategic Programs, Says Energy Minister in Inauguration of High-Level Officials

Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR), Arifin Tasrif, on Monday (1/2) inaugurated 31 Pratama (echelon II) High-Level Officials. The high-level officials inaugurated today include 25 officials who are rotated, one person elected from an Open Selection, one person appointed as Director of the Energy and Mining Polytechnic of Bandung, one person transformed to functional position of Geologist Specialist and three people appointed as executives of the upstream oil and gas regulatory task force SKK Migas.

Arifin said in his remarks that the inauguration and job rotation are done to restructure and refresh the organization of Ministry of EMR, while improving organizational performance and accelerating the strategic programs of the ministry.

"It's still early in 2021, a perfect time to evaluate the performance of the energy and mineral resources sector, because the management of energy and mineral resources is expected to drive improvement in people's prosperity which is closely related to economic growth," said Arifin.

According to Minister Arifin, the Ministry of EMR will prioritize a number of strategic programs in 2021.

In the oil and gas subsector, the government will again build natural gas networks for households and distribute oil-to-gas converter kit packages to fishermen and farmers.

In the mineral and coal subsector, the government will accelerate smelter construction and prepare the policies for acceleration of coal added-value increase.

In the electricity and New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (NREEC) subsectors, the government will focus on the construction of power plants, electricity transmission, substations, and smart-grid development. "We'll also encourage the use of battery electric vehicles and induction stoves," said Arifin.

In the geological subsector, the Ministry of EMR will modernize the equipment and systems for geological hazard mitigation as well as develop a geological information center.

Arifin also requested everyone within the EMR sector to improve their performance and synergy as well as make program and policy breakthroughs to realize this year's targeted strategic programs.

"To everyone within the EMR sector, please improve your performance and synergy, make breakthroughs, so that our strategic program targets can be realized, because our ministry's performance will have an impact on people's welfare," said Arifin.

Finally, Arifin cautioned all members of the Ministry of EMR to maintain and obey health protocol to support the government's measure in handling the Covid-19 pandemic. "Hopefully we'll always be healthy, especially amid this pandemic, so that we can perform our duties well," Arifin concluded. (IY)
