Realization of Q1-2021 over 60%, Says Energy Minister

National and global economic activities that have yet recovered from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic have seriously impacted the growth of Indonesian Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) sector. However, the EMR sector has made a large contribution to the national income in the first quarter of 2021.

"The realization of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) of the EMR Sector for Quarter 1 of 2021 reached Rp55.11 trillion or 61.1% of the target," said Minister of EMR Arifin Tasrif during the inauguration of Pratama (echelon 2) officials within the Ministry of EMR on Friday (21/5).

Arifin also spelt out other contribution by the EMR sector to the national investment totalling USD10.83 billion, with USD2.67 billion from oil and gas subsector, USD1.44 billion from electricity subsector, USD5.98 billion from mineral subsector, and USD0.74 billion from the new, renewable energy and energy conservation subsector.

For April, the EMR sector commodities grew stronger and provided positive performance for Indonesia's trade balance. According to data released by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) on Thursday (20/5), the value of oil and gas exports has increased, both on a month-to-month (m to m) basis and a year-to-year (y to y) basis.

In April, oil and gas exports increased by 5.34%, or to USD0.96 billion, from exports in March 2021 of USD0.91 billion. In fact, there was a significant increase of 69.60% when viewed from a year-to-year basis compared to exports in April 2020 which amounted to USD0.56 billion.

The opposite occured in oil and gas imports. On a month-to-month basis, oil and gas imports in April 2021 decreased by 11.22% to USD2.03 compared to imports in March 2021 of USD2.28 billion.

To curb imports, Arifin has instructed high-level officials within the Ministry of EMR to carry out strategic programs, for example the construction of gas networks for households and the use of battery electric vehicles (KBLBB). (IY)
