Indonesia's Mining Industry is Moving up to the Next Grade, Says Director General

One of the key points of Law Number 3 of 2020 on Mineral and Coal Mining is the increase in added value. To this end, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) has made every effort to use mining products for advanced industries, Director General of Mineral and Coal, Ridwan Djamaluddin, has said during the webinar titled "Minerals for Advanced Technology".

"We want to move up to the next grade; the mining industry wants to enter the advanced industry. This is the essence of the Law, so let's continue this effort together so that we can use the mineral and coal resources in our country for advanced industries," said Ridwan on Friday (17/9).

For this reason, Ridwan invited the younger generation and academics to participate in improving the mining industry.

"To the younger generation, students, and researchers, we invite them to continue to carry out these activities, because it is impossible for us to enter the high-tech industry without adequate science and technology. So, let's gather our strength, unite our spirit to develop the mining industry, in tonight's context of technology-based industries in Indonesia," he added.

On the same occasion, Head of Research and Technology Body of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), Ilham Akbar Habibie, said that the future economy would be influenced and shaped by technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. These were needed to answer the questions and needs arising from current global megatrends, that is, urbanization, climate change and resource scarcity, shifts in global economic power, demographic and social changes as well as technological breakthroughs.

"Technology and the related innovations in the context of the megatrends, including new and renewable energy, have become increasingly dominant, because climate change will change the face of the world. In addition, e-mobility, such as electric vehicles, will become the new norm in the future. The use of aerospace technology has become increasingly important, too," he said.

Ilham went on to say that minerals were needed as the raw materials of advanced industries, such as battery technology, solar energy, aerospace, and digital manufacturing. With the support of technology, where metal is one of the supporting materials, a region can become independent and create a greener future, Ilham concluded. (IY)
