Indonesia Electricity Stimulus to Continue into Q2 2021

The government has extended the electricity stimulus until June 2021 in the hope of softening the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Director General of Electricity of Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR), Rida Mulyana, has said in Jakarta on Sunday (4/4).

Rida stated that the Government continues to be committed to providing stimulus to lessen the burden on the poor and the vulnerable, as well as industrial and commercial groups, in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rida underlined that the electricity tariff stimulus provided by the Government is of temporary nature and not a permanent aid. Starting in the second quarter of 2021, the stimulus amounts to 50 percent of the previous stimulus.

"There are some differences in the stimulus mechanism, and the public must understand the differences. I'd like to thank PLN for distributing the stimulus which serves as a form of state presence," continued Rida.

Meanwhile, Executive Vice President of Corporate Communication and CSR of PT PLN (Persero), Agung Murdifi, said that the stimulus for April to June 2021 had been available and could be enjoyed by customers. As with the previous program, discounts are given to household customers subscribing to 450 VA and subsidized 900 VA plans, small businesses subscribing to 450 VA plan, and small industries subscribing to 450 VA.

Prepaid customers will get a tariff discount when purchasing electricity tokens, while postpaid customers get a discount through a direct deduction from electricity bill.

The mechanisms for the electricity tariff stimulus for the April-June 2021 period are as follows:

  1. Households subscribing to 450 VA plan, small businesses subscribing to 450 VA, and small industries subscribing to 450 VA are given a 50 percent discount from electricity bill for a maximum active time of 720 hours.
  2. Households subscribing to subsidized 900 VA are given a 25 percent discount for a maximum active time of 720 hours.
  3. Exemption from load charges or abonemen, and exemption from minimum fees of 50 percent are given to regular and special services customers in the industy, business, and social categories.

"We'd like to remind you, especially customers subscribing to postpaid 450 VA plan, because the amount of the discount stimulus has changed, customers must make payment again starting in April 2021," said Agung.

For prepaid 450 VA customers, Agung added, because the amount of the discount stimulus has changed too, customers no longer have to access their tokens via the web, Whatsapp service, or PLN Mobile. Discounts are given when making a purchase for token.

PLN hopes that the presence of the electricity stimulus will increase business actors' productivity and people's purchasing power in order to recover national economy. To serve customers who want to find out more about the stimulus, PLN offers service platform PLN Mobile application which is downloadable via Playstore or AppStore. (IY)
