Indonesia Bags 5 Prizes at ASEAN Energy Awards 2021

Indonesia won five prizes in the ASEAN Energy Awards 2021. The awarding ceremony was held during the 39th ASEAN Minister on Energy Meeting Vietnam and the ASEAN Energy Business Forum on Wednesday (15/09).

"Congratulations to the winners! I hope the achievements can encourage building managers to implement energy efficiency," said Head of Bureau of Communication, Public Information Services, and Cooperation of the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR), Agung Pribadi, in Jakarta after the winner announcement.

Two office buildings of the Ministry of EMR, namely the Slamet Branata Building of the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation and the Chairul Saleh Building of the Secretariat General, won the awards.

Agung hoped the success would increase the participation of other office buildings of the Ministry of EMR in the coming years. "I hope the office buildings of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources can secure a place in the same event in the coming years. The participation can encourage building managers and the employees of the Ministry of EMR to apply an energy efficient lifestyle," Agung said.

Indonesia sent 10 entries, all of whom were the winners of the 2018 and the 2019 Subroto Awards in Energy Efficiency. The judging was held in June 2021. Indonesia's representatives who won the awards are:

For the record, the ASEAN Energy Awards consist of 3 categories, namely ASEAN Coal Awards, ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation Best Practices Awards, and ASEAN Renewable Energy Project Awards.

The ASEAN Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Best Practices Awards are again divided into 3 subcategories, namely Energy Efficient Buildings and Green Buildings which aims to promote awareness of EE&C in buildings and encourage the participation of the private sector in EE&C implementation; Zero Energy Building (ZEB) which seeks to accelerate the adoption of ZEB in ASEAN countries, promote the implementation of ZEB, and evaluate the implementation of ZEB in reducing CO2 emissions; and Energy Management in Buildings and Industries is designed to promote and disseminate best practices in energy management that have been demonstrated or applied at the buildings and industries of ASEAN member countries.

The annual award has been held by the ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE) since 2000 to promote the use of new and renewable energy and the implementation of energy efficiency and conservation at the ASEAN level. The winners had been selected from dozens of entries submitted by all ASEAN member states. (IY)
