Improving Bureaucracy Quality, Secretary General of Energy Ministry Inaugurates Functional Officers from Equalization Process

Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR), Ego Syahrial, on Wednesday (13/10), inaugurated and swore in 47 functional officers from equalization process and 1 functional officer who gained promotion.

In his remarks after the inauguration ceremony, Ego said the position equalization process was the government effort to perform bureaucratic reform. "The government needs civil servants who can make breakthroughs and come up with innovations to better governance," he said.

Therefore, continued Ego, the government had continuously improved the quality of bureaucracy. One of the efforts made is by improving the quality of apparatus human resource so that apparatus structures are filled by technical, functional officers who have the expertise.

"Besides, we have simplified the bureaucracy so that civil servants work more effectively and efficiently as well as professionally," added Ego.

Ego reminded the inaugurated officers to prioritize the organization performance target over personal targets. "I have said many times over that credit point is not the main goal even for a functional officer, but the organization performance target is the main goal instead. Credit point is just an effect of the implementation of organization duties. It needs a recommendation of the unit head. You must remember that you are here to perform the duties and functions of your organization," Ego emphasized.

On this occasion, Ego also said that the EMR sector had a quite serious challenge. The EMR sector must be able to provide the public with energy at an affordable price because the EMR sector is an economic mover and a source of state income.

Despite the current pandemic, the performance of the EMR sector has been good and shown improvement. "Because of our hard work and synergy, until September this year, the EMR sector contributed Rp116.4 trillion of non-tax state revenue, or raising by 43% compared to the same period last year," said Ego.

Additionally, investment in the EMR sector until August hit USD14.9 billion. Another achievement is that the Rokan Block, one of the largest oil and gas blocks in Indonesia, is officially managed by the state through PT Pertamina (Persero). The electrification ratio touches 99.4%. Next year, the Ministry of EMR has set a target of electrifying all households in the country.

"These achievements are just a fraction of our realized targets. We still have many challenges to respond to, such as the One Price Fuel Program targeted at 580 distribution points by 2024, 23% of new renewable energy share in the energy mix by 2025, construction of natural gas networks, and an increased use of electric vehicles," emphasized Ego.

Another target in the clean energy subsector is reaching Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060 or sooner, which will be made via transition to cleaner, more environmentally friendly, and low- carbon energy. For this reason, the Ministry of EMR encourages the young generation to speed up the implementation of new, renewable energy usage through programs such as Energy Patriot and Solar Power Initiative Movement or GERILYA.

"We must not become complacent about these achievements. Instead, we must make a determined effort to work and perform better in facing these tough challenges. I am sure that if we are committed and make synergies between functional officers and between units, we can overcome the challenges and meet the targets together," Ego concluded. (IY)
