Gov't Adds Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles, Says Official

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) has added some charging infrastructure (IPL) for battery electric vehicles (KBLBB). In semester 1 of 2021, a total of 240 charging units were installed across Indonesia out of the 390 units targeted to be in place until the end of 2021.

"The addition of the charging infrastructure is aimed to support access and facilitate users of electric vehicles. This way, we hope the number of people interested in using electric vehicles will grow," said Secretary of Directorate General of Electricity of Ministry of EMR, Munir Ahmad, in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/9).

The charging infrastructure will be placed at shopping malls, the branch offices of PT PLN (Persero), public gas stations, sports centers, airports, toll roads, office complexes, authorized car dealers, and taxi garages.

"There are 240 charging units, consisting of 166 public and private charging stations as well as 74 battery swap stations," said Munir.

The government also provides support for the electric vehicle program by issuing a supporting regulation. Regulation of Minister of EMR Number 13 of 2020 on the Provision of Charging Infrastructure for Battery Electric Vehicles controls the responsibility of business entities, licensing process, electric power schemes, electric power tariffs, incentives, and business safety.

Increasing amid Pandemic

Munir also explained what the Directorate General of Electricity had achieved in terms of electrification ratio, electric power losses as well as the increase in electric power generation, transmission lines, substations, and distribution lines.

"The target for the national electrification ratio in 2021 is 100%. This means that every household in Indonesia has access to electric power. According to the statement of electric power installation, the national electrification ratio until semester 1 of 2021 reached 99.37%," Munir stated.

The losses in the electric power lines until quarter 1 of 2021 reached 9.00%, as shown by the Determination of the Realized Losses in the Electric Networks of PT PLN (Persero) of June 17th, 2021. In 2021, the target for electric network losses is set at 9.01%.

Munir went on to say that until semester 1 of 2021, the addition in the generation capacity reached 679.59 MW, 1,203.31 circuit kms of transmission lines, 2,930 MVA of substation capacity, and 6,951.56 circuit kms of distribution lines.

"The government guarantees that the Covid-19 pandemic will not impact on the security of power supply and that the electric power system has sufficient reserves," Munir concluded. (IY)
