Energy Ministry Wins an Award in TOP 45 Public Service Innovations 2021

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif, on Tuesday (9/11), received an award of the Top 45 Public Service Innovations of 2021 from the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB) Tjahjo Kumolo. The award was presented for an innovation in environmental protection and preservation in the energy sector made via SINERGI (Energy Conservation Information System) application.

Arifin explained that the SINERGI application was an innovation developed by Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation. The application promotes energy appliances that use minimum energy and that have obtained an energy-saving label. The website-based application provides information on energy conservation in Indonesia.

"This application is a medium that bridges the government with the stakeholders, especially energy users, to share information and answer implementation challenges so that policies can be implemented massively," said Arifin

Minister of PAN-RB Tjahjo Kumolo congratulated the winners on their success. In the future, Tjahjo expected that public service would adapt to the latest developments and challenges.

"I would like to thank and congratulate all elements of the government, be it state ministries and agencies, regional governments, and SOEs, that have been awarded Top Public Service Innovations 2021. In the future, public service innovation should be modified to adapt to the existing developments and challenges, especially in an era of new habits adaptation with the increasingly widespread use of digital platforms," said Tjahjo.

Meanwhile, Public Services Deputy of the Ministry of PANRB, Diah Natalisa, said that the award was one of the government's efforts to motivate public service providers to improve their services. Unlike previous years, the awarding ceremony in 2021 was held virtually.

"What distinguishes this year from previous years is that this year's awarding ceremony is held virtually. We take this action to anticipate the rate of Covid-19 cases, which is currently sloping, thank God," said Diah.

Through the SINERGI, the exchange of information to replicate success stories about energy management can be done more effectively than if each industry does its own research into energy management.

The SINERGI offers the following features: (1) Energy Management Reporting, (2) Energy-Saving Equipment Reporting, (3) Energy Conservation Guidelines and Standards, (4) Energy Conservation Supporting Service Information, (5) Success Stories and Best Practices, and (6) Subroto Awards for Energy Efficiency.

The SINERGI also helps build energy conservation supporting businesses, for example energy service company (ESCO), professional energy auditors and energy managers who may be employed by industry, training and consulting services, and technology providers.

Before the SINERGI was developed, the energy savings in 2014 was way off the 120 GWh target from 23 industries that submitted reports. In 2020, the amount of energy savings reached 63,315 GWh with 242 participating industries. The amount is equivalent to 18,214,373 tonnes of CO2 emission reduction.

The existence of the SINERGI has impacted positively on industries participating in energy efficiency competitions at regional and international levels. This is evident from the fact that Indonesia always wins a prize in the ASEAN Energy Awards (AEA) and the Energy Management Leadership Awards of the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) joined by G20 economies.

Stakeholders have expressed their appreciation for the application. For example, the Energy and Mineral Resources Service Offices of West Java, Banten, and Aceh Provinces have expressed their desire to replicate the application for use in their regions. (IY)
