Energy Ministry Bags Energy Development Awards

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) won two awards for environmental-based energy development from waste management service company Waste4Change and the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society (METI), respectively.

"The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources won the 2021 Most Reduce-Waste to Landfill Award from Waste4Change and the Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation (EECE) Commitment Award from METI," said Head of Bureau of Communication, Public Information Service, and Cooperation of the Ministry of EMR, Agung Pribadi, in Jakarta, Saturday (27/11).

According to Agung, the award from Waste4Change shows the Ministry of EMR has carried out responsible waste management to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. "We make sure that we minimize the amount of internal waste and use environmentally friendly packaging to increase recycling value," Agung commented.

In terms of energy efficiency and conservation, the Chairul Saleh Building of the Ministry of EMR has been designed with the concept of green & healthy building, with the building faces North-South and utilizes natural lighting. The design also provides ventilation openings around the building, as well as tree planting to protect the building from direct sunlight and reduce air pollution. "These efforts improve the productivity and health of building users, and indoor air quality," explained Agung.

In addition, the Ministry of EMR has adopted an Energy Management Program at the Chairul Saleh Building since 2016 and ISO 50001: 2018 on energy management system. "The operational patterns of the building are based on Green Operation & Maintenance, which creates a good operational system. The building uses renewable energy and a building automation system (BAS) to run electrical equipment," added Agung.

Agung hopes the two awards will inspire other agencies to prioritize environmental-based energy development. "We are happy and proud of this achievement. Hopefully, these awards will become a stimulus for replication and best practice for the management of other buildings, not only within the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources but also in various sectors," Agung concluded.
