High-Level Officials Must Understand and be Able to Handle Challenges during the Pandemic, Says Energy Minister

Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) Arifin Tasrif highlighted the challenges in the energy and mineral sector during the Covid 19 pandemic.

"I'd like you to understand the various challenges in your respective units and to answer the challenges yourself quickly," said Arifin during the inauguration and swearing-in ceremony of Pratama (echelon 2) officials within the Ministry of EMR on Friday (21/5).

Arifin asked echelon 2 officials to build strong teamwork, accomplish tasks mutually, and do away the silo mentality (not wanting to share). "Synergy and cooperation are a must. For this reason, please create new commitments and a stronger spirit of cooperation, and work with your heart, with care and ethics," Arifin continued.

Moreover, he asked high-level officials within the EMR Ministry to work professionally, earnestly, and with high integrity for the benefit of the organization. "Rotations and promotions will continue to occur within an organization, because both are needed by the organization and by civil servants for career development. I'd like to remind you to carry out your duties according to your authority and for the benefit of the organization," said Arifin.

A leader, continued Arifin, should become a role model for their subordinates in carrying out their duties and in their behaviors. "(You) have to be able to manage the existing resources," Arifin added.

Arifin reminded that a position is not meant to be held for good. A position is a mandate and trust that should be carried out with full responsibility. "Your performance will be evaluated, even your position will be evaluated if you cannot meet the performance targets that have been set," said Arifin.

During the ceremony, Arifin inaugurated and swore in eight Pratama officials. Four officials were promoted, which included Dwi Anggoro Ismukurnianto (Director of Oil and Gas Program Fostering), Sunindyo Suryo Herdadi (Director of Mineral and Coal Program Fostering), Waskito Tunggul Nusanto (Head of Human Resources Development Center of Oil and Gas), and Totoh Abdul. Fatah (Head of General Affairs Bureau of Secretariat General of Indonesian National Energy Council).

Meanwhile, four officials were rotated, namely Yose Rizal (Secretary of Inspectorate General), Mohamad Priharto Dwinugroho (Secretary of Research and Development Agency of Energy and Mineral Resources), Bambang Utoro (Head of Human Resources Development Center of Geology, Mineral, and Coal), and Yuli Rachwati (Secretary of BPH Migas).
