Electrification Ratio Hits 99.40% in Q3 2021, Official Says

In Q3 2021, the electrification ratio has picked up by 0.3 percent to 99.40 percent, Head of Bureau of Communication, Public Information Services, and Cooperation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR), Agung Pribadi, has said in Jakarta, Friday (19/11). We've set a target that all regions and households in Indonesia will have access to electricity next year, Agung continued.

Agung went on to say that East Nusa Tenggara was the only province to have an electrification ratio below 90 percent. In fact, Bali has a 100% electrification ratio. "Accelerated construction of electricity infrastructure is one of our priorities while improving service quality," explained Agung.

To boost the growth of electricity infrastructure, the government has set a target for additional renewable power capacity of 20,923 MW until 2030.

"In the last five years, renewable power capacity has increased by 1,469 MW with an annual rise of 4% on average," said Agung.

Between January and September 2021, the addition in renewable power capacity reached 386 Mega Watt (MW). Solar and hydro are the two factors contributing to a growing renewable capacity. "For this reason, we're focusing on solar power system, such as rooftop solar PV," Agung emphasized.

The 386 MW additional power has come from Poso Peaker Hydropower Plant 2nd Expansion of 130 Mega Watt (MW), 12 micro hydropower plants 71.26 MW, 2 geothermal power plants 55 MW, bioenergy power plants 19.5 MW, and rooftop solar PVs 17.88 MW.

Observing the growth, the government is optimistic that the 23% target for renewable share in the energy mix in 2025 will be met. One of the efforts made by the government is to formulate a 'greener' Electricity Provision Business Master Plan (RUPTL) of state utility company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara of 2021-2030, allocating 51.6% of power generation to renewable energy.
