Electric Vehicle Businesses Support SPBKLU Operations

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) Arifin Tasrif virtually launched the operations of SPBKLU (Battery Swap Station for Electric Vehicles) at three locations on Tuesday (3/11).

Arifin expected that the launch could offer a solution for speedy formation of battery electric vehicle ecosystems.

"On this 75th anniversary of National Electricity Day, the Ministry of EMR also launches the operations of SPBKLU. It is expected that SPBKLU can be one of the solutions for speedy formation of battery electric vehicle ecosystems. Through SPBKLU, battery recharging can be done more quickly because of technological support," said Arifin.

A number of businesses, all of which support SPBKLU operations, are involved in the launch. One of the business actors present is the founder of Ezyfast, Nicodemus Suheri, who said that swapping electric vehicle batteries at an SPBKLU is very easy. He drew an analogy between the vehicle battery and a gallon of mineral water.

"It's a very easy process. The principle works like swapping water gallons. We swap empty gallons with the full ones. Let the machines do the charging," said Nicodemus.

Another company, namely OYIKA, assembles smart batteries with Internet of Things (IoT) capacity. OYIKA collaborates with several Indonesian manufacturers of electric motorcycles to modify their products into smart electric motorcycles. The motorcycles incorporate OYIKA's portable smart batteries, SPBKLU networks, and smartphone applications.

"OYIKA is proud to be part of the Acceleration Program of Battery Electric Vehicles in Indonesia. There are currently 11 SPBKLU installed across Jakarta for initial trials. We plan to install another 1,000 SPBKLU in Jakarta by 2021," said OYIKA's President Director, Larry Lim.

President of Grab Indonesia Ridzki Kramadibrata who was also present at the launch said that his company wanted to take part in the expansion of Indonesia's digital economy and support the implementation of President Jokowi's efforts to promote electric vehicles.

"Grab is ready to support the government's program of creating electric vehicle ecosystems. We are open to collaboration with all industry players, especially those players who will create added value for national economy," Ridzki concluded.

Overall, Grab's KBL (electric vehicle) ecosystem in Indonesia is more than 5,000 vehicles, in the forms of motorcycles, e-scooters, and cars. This huge fleet is utilized to support the Indonesian government's vision of reducing carbon emissions by 29% by 2030. For this reason, Grab has collaborated with KYMCO to conduct a pilot project on supplying a fleet of electric vehicles and supporting facility in the form of battery swap station which is also supported by PLN's UP3 Cikokol office.

The launch of SPBKLU has been held in the series of events to celebrate the 75th anniversary of National Electricity Day. The launch was carried out at three locations, namely PLN's UP3 Cikokol office by Grab Indonesia and Kymco, Alfamart Gandaria 3 on Jalan Jatayu in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta by Oyika, and the office of Directorate General of Electricity in Kuningan, South Jakarta by Ezyfazt and Oyika.
